Somali women voices organization (SOWOVO)

Somali Women Voices Organization (SOWOVO) was established in 2017 to create space for women in Somalia to be heard. Women are essential to progress in their communities. SOWOVO is a grassroots women-led community organization whose aim is to respond to social development related issues in Somalia.

SOWOVO engages women into development within their communities. This has created a platform to address gender based violence, issues that promote poor Health among women and vulnerability among marginalised members of the society. Somali Women Voices is to promote the active participation of women in leadership and girl child education and empowerment.

Their mission is to establish a national movement that empowers women leaders in the community who will be solving Somalia’s greatest challenges. Steered by the belief that women are key stakeholders in the progress of a community, we identify women with a bold vision for change and equip them with the necessary leadership skills to make that vision a reality through networking and visibility.

SOWOVO involves leadership skills training political participation of women awareness for FGM and GBV. They invest in women leaders who strengthen the crafting and implementation of legal frameworks, provide services to victims of gender based violence and change mindsets about gender-based violence.
